While the perks of being an independent claims adjuster are great, there are potential challenges staying motivated. Since you have no boss, you are your own boss. Having the flexibility to create your own schedule and work on your terms is a game changer. However, this also means overcoming the temptations to do other things or bailing when you’re too tired or busy. Getting your work done correctly and on time should always be your first priority but how can you really stay motivated as an independent claims adjuster?
Here are some tips to stay motivated
Write Down your Goals
You’re going to need to stay on top of what you need to accomplish for the day, week, month, and year. Seeing your long-term or short-term goals on paper will keep you motivated to succeed and less likely to slack off knowing what you’d like to accomplish.
Since there’s no need to check in with any co-workers or your boss everyday, find a person that you can tell your goals to either with a daily check in or weekly. You’re more likely to complete a task if someone else is keeping you accountable.
The 5 Minute Rule
Whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed or sluggish, take 5 minutes to refresh. Either step away from work and go for a quick walk to clear your head, have a snack, schedule an appointment, or answer your personal calls and emails. This can jump-start your productivity, leaving you refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your day.
Remind Yourself Why You’re Here
One of the reasons you decided to become an independent claims adjuster was most likely because you were unhappy in your previous career or lifestyle. Remind yourself of the steps and hard work it took to get to where you are now. You’re fortunate to have a great career where you call all the shots.
For those days when you’re feeling unmotivated, remember these techniques to help you stay focused to accomplish your career goals.
